MONA LISA IS COMING TO AUSTIN & PHILADELPHIA OCTOBER 20

Mona Lisa and The Missing Piece are doing a two-city tour next week. The story of her amazing theft in 1911 will be screening on SATURDAY, OCTOBER 20 & MONDAY, OCTOBER 22 at the Austin Film Festival.

NEWS FLASH: The Mona Lisa is coming to Philly!

First, the Mill Valley Film Festival, then the Austin Film Festival and now the Philadelphia Film Festival.

We are thrilled, excited and honored to be showing our documentary about the man who stole the Mona Lisa in our home town -- the city where the idea for the film began 36 years ago.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, VINCENZO PERUGGIA - OCT. 8. A SCREENING IN YOUR HONOR

Today, we had our final screening at the Mill Valley Film Festival for "The Missing Piece." And it was fitting that it was on the 131st anniversary of his birth (10/8/1881) and the 87th anniversary of his death (10/8/1925). (He was born and died on the same day -- 44 years apart.)

Plus, it's also Columbus Day to boot (That's a little Italian pun there.)

MILL VALLEY FILM FESTIVAL STARTS TOMORROW 10/4. THE MISSING PIECE TO PREMIERE SATURDAY, 10/6.

HOW IT STARTED

It all began in 1976 when I read this sentence in a book: "...On August 21, 1911, Vincenzo Peruggia, an Italian mason, stole the picture to take to Italy." Ever since then I've been trying to find the truth about why he did what he did. This has led me on some amazing adventures, including meeting and becoming friends with the Peruggia family, especially his wonderful 86-year-old daughter Celestina. She didn't know much about her father so in my film we bring her truth about this elusive and strange man. And there's one thing I learned in doing all this -- there's a little bit of him in all of us.
